Once each calendar year a household can set out up to one cubic yard of garbage, in cans or bags of 32 gallons or smaller, plus two non-appliance bulky items such as a mattress or a couch, for free same-day collection. One pickup per customer per year. Appliances are not part of the free allowance: Recology charges per item for white goods, for refrigerators and freezers, and for every sofa, chair, mattress or box spring beyond it, and fridge and freezer doors have to come off first. A downsizing, an estate or a remodel runs past that immediately. We take the whole job in one visit.
